The beginner's mind is the mind of compassion. When our mind is compassionate,
it is boundless
. -Shunryu Suzuki Roshi

Welcome to the Brooklyn Zen Center and Koshin-ji (Boundless Mind Temple). We are a Soto Zen Buddhist community in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki and affiliated with the San Francisco Zen Center. The meditation style we practice is called shikantaza or "just sitting", a simple meditation practice taught by and passed down from our 13th century ancestor, Eihei Dogen. Please feel encouraged to come join us for morning and evening meditation. We would be very happy to have you sit zazen with us.

The new upper Manhattan sitting group is meeting Wednesday nights in Morningside Heights to support those who wish to practice in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki-Roshi but live too far away to come to Brooklyn Zen Center regularly. Paul Brantley has generously offered to be the contact for this group. For more information on how to contact Paul and sit with the group, please click here...

Please join us at Brooklyn Zen Center on Monday evening, March 15th, from 7:30–9:00pm, for a dharma talk and discussion with Zen priest, senior dharma teacher and poet, Zoketsu Norman Fischer. The topic of Norman's talk will be Psalms/Koans in the traditions of Judaism and Zen Buddhism. The event is cosponsored with the Jewish Meditation Center of Brooklyn. More details here...

As a result of the growing interest in Zen Buddhist practice in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki, Brooklyn Zen Center has moved to a larger space at 505 Carroll Street. We very much need and appreciate your support as we now commit to the opportunities and challenges our new home provides.
