The beginner's mind is the mind of compassion. When our mind is compassionate,
it is boundless
. -Shunryu Suzuki Roshi

Welcome to the Brooklyn Zen Center and Koshin-ji (Boundless Mind Temple). We are a Soto Zen Buddhist community in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki and affiliated with the San Francisco Zen Center. The meditation style we practice is called shikantaza or "just sitting", a simple meditation practice taught by and passed down from our 13th century ancestor, Eihei Dogen. Please feel encouraged to come join us for morning and evening meditation. We would be very happy to have you sit zazen with us.

We are very excited to announce that a new Upper Manhattan, Hudson Heights-based sitting group is currently forming to support those who wish to practice in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki-Roshi and attend events and retreats with visiting teachers at BZC, but live too far away to come to Brooklyn regularly. Paul Brantley has generously offered to lead efforts to organize this group. For more information on how to contact Paul and sit with the group, please click here...

From 1/31 through 2/21, Zen Buddhist priest and BZC guiding teacher, Teah Strozer, will be visiting to lead a three week-long practice intensive that will include a five day sesshin and an opening ceremony for our new space at 505 Carroll Street. The ceremony will take place on 2/6, from 3–6pm. The five day sesshin will begin Tuesday evening, 2/16, and end Sunday afternoon, 2/21. Please check our email list, facebook or twitter page for the daily schedule of this intensive practice period. More details here...

As a result of the New York City community’s growing interest in Zen Buddhist practice in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki, we are currently raising funds that will go toward our move to a larger space at 505 Carroll Street. All financial offers of support are tax deductible and deeply appreciated. If you would like to help out toward this end, please consider donating directly here.
